If you are one of those people who is a fan of the stubbornly subsistent “Lovecraftian” influence on things, and who is also a fan of cyberpunk, you are in luck. Transient, developed by Stormling Studios and published by Iceberg Interactive, promises to be some sort of cyberpunk thriller game with that “Lovecraftian” vibe that all the kids seem to love these days.
Not much else is known about what type of game this actually is. Cinematic platformer? Visual novel? Action Adventure? FPS? No one knows! But here is a trailer that opens with a quote from the believer-in-utmost-impartiality H.P. Lovecraft himself.
So as you can see, this trailer is quite bare-bones. It is a teaser, after all. There is no shortage of creepiness in this clip, however. And I am fully confident that the game itself will be no less creepy. Here are some of the things we can look forward to according to the publisher:
In a distant, post-apocalyptic future, what remains of the population of mankind lives in an enclosed citadel called Domed City Providence, created to survive the harsh outside environment. In this, mankind’s final refuge, Randolph Carter, a member of a notorious hacker-for-hire group called ODIN, accidentally stumbles across the terrifying truth, a truth that might tear apart his own sanity and lead him to question his very existence.
I mean that sounds like a pretty good premise for a “cyberpunk thriller” as far as I’m concerned. How about you? Sound good to you? If you’re not convinced here are some key features offered by Transient that you can look forward to digesting:
-H.P. Lovecraft meets Cyberpunk. Delve deep into an obscure dystopian world and hold firm to your consciousness while you explore enigmatic networks where change is permanent but reality is only temporary.
-To find out what is going on, traverse between real and artificially created worlds
-Ominous but lush graphics created with Unreal Engine 4
-Secrets and Easter eggs
-A haunting and atmospheric soundtrack.
Transient is currently slated to be released sometime in the year 2020, ironically the year that a lot of cyberpunk and future-dystopian works actually take place in. Mind blowing!
Currently the game, if it is a game, is currently planned for release on the platforms of PC, Xbox, and PS4. But so far no word on whether or not Transient will also be released for the one platform anyone cares about, the Nintendo Switch. I’ll keep you posted if I hear anything.
